More than half (54%) of property firms are failing to carry out crucial “ghost-buster” checks on new business clients, research from SmartSearch shows.
An estimated total of just £3.3bn has been paid for properties across the UK since January, compared to around £9.4bn in 2020 and £16.6bn in 2019.
In 2019 investors purchased £16.6bn of UK property, but this fell by 58% in 2020 to £9.4bn, and by a further 65% to £3.3bn in 2021.
