Airbnb calls for Irish government to establish landlord register

Airbnb has called for the Irish government to introduce laws so it can ban non-registered property owners from the platform.

In a similar trend to what we’re seeing in the UK, Airbnb has been criticized in Ireland for removing long-term rental stock.

To solve this issue the platform said the government should set up a register of approved short-term lets to keep things in check.

This would bring Ireland in line with other European countries like The Netherlands, France and Portugal.

Amanda Cupples, Airbnb’s general manager for northern Europe, told The Irish Independent: “We know that we have a problem and that Ireland has a problem.”

Ireland introduced regulations in 2019 designed to prevent landlords from moving to the short-term rental market.

The rules involved planning permission requirements and time limits on lettings.
